Grade 1 Excursion to the Warwick Art Gallery

Wednesday, September 04, 2019

In late May, the Grade 1s visited the Gallery to admire an exhibition called ‘Plastic Doesn’t Grow On Trees’ by Mary Elizabeth Barron. This artist uses recycled plastics to explore ideas around the environment and our throwaway culture by creating an immersive plastic environment mimicking nature. The children loved the landscape, finding different animals and plants created from different plastics. It was very inspiring and the Grade 1s are wanting to find ways to create a smaller version of that landscape in the classroom. They learned how to twine plastic, so they can use this technique when recreating some of the flora and fauna we have seen. A big thank you also to Mr Quinton for taking us there, so we were able to enjoy this great exhibition.
